Baby on board
This morning on The Twatter and the Arsebook I asked:
Can someone please explain to me what protection a "Baby on board" car sticker brings? #WOFT
Well it seems it's quite an emotive subject! Most people who replied found them pointless. Vehemently so! Some were utterly horrified that people would put them in their rear window. There were screams of "I'd rather be able to see out the window than have one of those things blocking my view!" to "No one wants to know how fertile you are!"
There were the middle-of-the-roaders who thought they were useful in informing people that there is a baby in the vehicle and had noticed their driving changes when they see one in the back window. A good reason I suppose but I still wasn't happy.
There was one lady (not you Sam) who seemed pretty insistent that the theory behind them was so the emergency services knew to check in the back for a baby in the event of a collision. Trust me there is no way a member of the emergency services would not look in the back of the car. This is an urban myth and was never part of the original design. There was no one in an office somewhere banging his head on the table saying "How do we get paramedics to look in the back of the car?" because if there were someone else would have said "They already do, you moron!"
Of all the replies I got my favourite was this:
Don't need one. They can see I've got the baby because he's on my lap! Besides, where do I stick it on my bike?
There was one reply though that actually did change my mind. Al said: "I got mine because, although I'm a slow driver anyway, with the little one in the car I'm even more careful, so to let people know the reason I'm not flooring it away from the lights is because she's in the back."
In my mind that is a perfectly acceptable reason. I'd never thought of it that way. Thanks to that I'll never have an issue with those yellow/pink/white/blue signs. Let's not get me started on the Princess On Board ones though.
*WOFT = Waste Of Fucking Time.
